Day 1: ARRIVAL DAY (Friday November 17, 2017)

Welcome to Cuba! Upon arrival to the Havana international airport, independently go through Customs and gather your luggage. Your bilingual local guide will meet you as you enter the Arrivals hall, and from here, begin your 4 night Marabana Marathon weekend trip! Your first taste of Cuba will be by way of a panoramic tour by bus (about 40 minutes) through some of the most iconic sections of the capital city.  Along the way, you will see a wide mixture of architectural styles and the testimony of Cuba’s different influences: Spanish, British and American. Arrive at your hotel and check in before getting some lunch on your own on the property or at a nearby restaurant of your choice. In the evening, take part in an orientation briefing about the upcoming days’ schedule and what to expect of the Marabana Marathon event and Cuba overall. Then, be transferred to a reception dinner at a typical “paladar,” or privately-owned restaurant, for a fusion-style meal well created to inaugurate your first night in Havana. This evening will give you a chance to meet and exchange with various Cuban sports legends to learn about the Cuban athletic system and its international successes.

Day 2: HAVANA (Saturday November 18, 2017)

Early in the morning, have a hearty breakfast at the hotel before setting out on a full day of sightseeing and getting a sneak peek at the Marabana Marathon. Kick off your day in the city by driving through Havana, seeing and learning about the historical importance of its glorious buildings, many dating to Colonial times. View the Revolution Square and Capitol Area. Continue on to explore the 4 major squares in Havana: Plaza Vieja, Plaza de Armas, Plaza de San Francisco and Plaza de la Catedral. Go by the Capitol area where the traditional start line of the Marabana Marathon is located. Inspect the site and get familiar with the layout and logistics before the big event the next day! Your guide will then take you to the Melia Cohiba hotel where participants enrolled in the race will pick up their tournament bib numbers and go through a medical checkup. Regain your energy with a refreshing meal at a local paladar then return to the hotel for some preparation time on your own in advance of tomorrow. Dinner will be on your own tonight, so rest and power up!

Day 3: THE BIG MARATHON DAY! (Sunday November 19, 2017)

Today is marathon day! After a nice breakfast at the hotel, depart for the Capitol area to meet with organizers from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and arrive at your race corral. At 7:00 AM, the Marabana Marathon will officially begin, good luck! At 12:00 PM, the race will finish, followed with a press conference, results, and awards. Return to the hotel and you will have the rest of the afternoon to rest and relax. In the evening, be whisked away
by a vintage American car! Enjoy the ocean breeze and marvel at the sunset as you drive along
the Malecon. Arrive at a typical “paladar,” or privately owned restaurant where your post-race dinner awaits.  Perhaps tonight, you will feel like following the marathon festivities with a stop at the Cuban Art Factory (FAC), one of the trendiest grassroots arts and nightlife venues in Havana today, to celebrate that you completed the race.

Day 4: HAVANA (Monday November 20, 2017)

Depart to Hemingway’s home, Finca Vigia (“the lookout farm” located in the town of San Francisco de Paula), where you will visit and see where he wrote two of his most celebrated novels. Peer into the windows and see items just as Hemingway left them, including more than 8,000 books, personal relics, and collections; on the grounds are also his precious boat Pilar and the legendary swimming pool where he hosted some of the biggest cultural icons of the times. Then visit “Fusterlandia”, a community project started by renowned Cuban artist
Jose Fuster, “the Picasso of the Caribbean,” who transformed his entire neighborhood into a colorful mosaic and artistic mecca. Enjoy lunch at a paladar nearby, then visit the Angeles del Futuro community project where you will meet and interact with children who are learning circus and acrobatics skills as part of a healthy initiative to instill them with this fulfilling hobby. Meet with both the students and instructors, and enjoy a rehearsal session. Be returned to the hotel in the early afternoon to freshen up, then tonight will be a fine farewell dinner at a local paladar with a meal that blends classic Cuban flavors with a touch of modern kitchen styling.

Day 5: DEPARTURE DAY (Tuesday November 21, 2017)

Have breakfast at the hotel, then at a convenient time, your guide and driver will take you by bus to the Havana airport for your international flight home. From the start to finish, we hope your time in Cuba was a pleasant one. Thank you for exploring Cuba with us!
